Dog paws work hard in Finnish conditions. Winter road salt, ice, and abrasive grit can irritate the pads, while summer heat, rough trails, and long exercise sessions can do the same in a different way. Most people come here to prevent soreness early instead of waiting until the pad is already damaged.
The real choice is usually between protection and recovery support. Barrier creams, simple boots, and careful post-walk care all have a place, but they solve slightly different problems. A dog facing salted pavements every day needs a different routine from one whose issue is already dry, cracked pads.
Rinsing paws after walks, drying them properly, and checking for grit, small cuts, and tenderness often matter as much as the product itself. When the routine is simple enough to repeat every day, licking and soreness are more likely to be noticed before they turn into limping.
Seek veterinary assessment if the paw is swollen, bleeding, clearly painful, the dog refuses weight-bearing, or limping continues after the walk. Paw problems are often small at first, but they can worsen quickly once the dog keeps using the area.
