Fever belongs to many ordinary respiratory infections, but the number on the thermometer is only one part of the picture. Most people in this category are looking for a sensible way to judge whether rest and fluids are enough or whether discomfort has reached the point where medicine is useful. That is a better starting point than trying to normalise every reading.

Adults and children need slightly different comparisons. In adults, the main question is usually whether fever, aches, and tiredness are stopping rest and drinking. In children, alertness, breathing, and fluid intake carry even more weight than the number itself. The selection logic stays practical. Follow the overall condition, not just the peak reading.

Fever is also easy to over-treat by accident. A cold remedy may already contain the same active substance as a separate fever medicine. That makes the ingredient list more important than the product name. If several people in the household are ill at once, it is even easier to mix adult and child products unless the routine stays clear.

Seek care if fever comes with breathing difficulty, confusion, neck stiffness, repeated vomiting, or clear deterioration in general condition. For more detailed reading, see Fever in adults, Child fever, and Measuring fever at home.
