Insect repellent is usually chosen to make outdoor time easier, not to solve every possible bite risk. The useful differences are often the duration of the outing, the place, the amount of exposed skin, and whether the product is meant for adults or children.
A repellent that is simple to apply and comfortable to repeat is often more practical than one that sounds stronger. It helps when the product matches the setting, whether that is a walk in the woods, an evening by the water, or time at the summer cottage.
Repellent is best used exactly as the label says. It does not need to be spread over more skin than necessary, and it should stay away from broken skin, eyes, and mouth. Clothing still matters, especially when insects are active for longer periods.
If the product causes strong stinging, rash, or breathing symptoms, stop using it. If the bite problem keeps getting worse despite sensible prevention, the routine may need to be adjusted rather than just repeated.
