N-acetylcysteine, or NAC, is a derivative of the amino acid cysteine. In healthcare it is used as a medicine in certain situations, while in food supplements the aims vary much more. That is why it makes sense to see NAC as a more narrowly considered product rather than a general everyday supplement.

NAC is often grouped with antioxidant products and general wellbeing routines, but the evidence varies. It does not replace treatment or proper assessment when cough, breathing symptoms, or shortness of breath continue.

If you want to try NAC, keep the plan as simple as possible. One product at a time is easier to interpret than several new wellbeing products together. If you have asthma, regular medication, pregnancy, or breastfeeding, suitability should be checked first.
