Summer in Finland brings its own set of health questions. The sun is stronger than it feels, insects become part of outdoor life and heat can creep up on the body before it is obvious.

Sun protection matters early#

UV radiation can burn skin even on a day that feels mild. A combination of shade, clothing, hat and sunscreen works better than relying on one tool alone. The goal is regular protection, not a last-minute rescue after the skin is already red.

If the skin does burn, cool it gently and avoid popping blisters. A wide burn, fever, vomiting or confusion needs review.

Insects and ticks#

Bites and stings are common in summer. A simple cool compress can ease itching. If a sting causes rapid swelling, breathing trouble or a general allergic reaction, urgent help is needed.

Ticks should be removed as soon as possible. Watch the bite site afterwards. A spreading red area or a clearly worsening general condition needs review.

Heat and fluids#

Heat can cause fatigue, dizziness and weakness, especially during activity. Drink steadily during the day and move to a cooler place if the body starts to overheat. Heat stroke is an emergency if confusion, fainting or very hot skin appears.

When to seek care#

Seek care if sunburn is severe, if an insect sting triggers an allergic reaction, if a tick bite is followed by a spreading rash, or if heat illness seems more than mild tiredness.
