Plant-based omega-3 is a mixed category. Some products use algal oil to provide DHA or both DHA and EPA directly, while others are based on flaxseed, chia, or other plant oils that mainly provide ALA.
That difference matters more than the phrase plant-based. If the goal is a fish-free source of EPA or DHA, the label needs to say so clearly. If the product mainly provides ALA, it belongs in a different comparison even though it still sits under omega-3.
A useful choice usually comes down to the fatty-acid type, amount per daily serving, format, taste, and how easily the product fits meals. If pregnancy, breastfeeding, medicines, or an upcoming procedure are part of the picture, check suitability before use.
