Migraine is usually easier to recognise by the whole pattern than by pain alone. Nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, the need to lie down, and in some cases aura symptoms all separate migraine from the ordinary headache categories people use for day-to-day aches.

Self-care works best when the pattern is already familiar. A dark and quiet room, rest, cooling, regular eating, and early use of a suitable medicine may all help. The important point is not to treat every unusual headache as migraine just because the pain is strong. A headache that is new or different needs a more careful reading.

Migraine also changes over time. Hormonal shifts, sleep disruption, missed meals, stress, and bright spring light can all matter in Finland. If attacks are becoming more frequent or are no longer controlled in the usual way, the next useful step is often assessment rather than another round of experimentation.

Seek care urgently if headache begins suddenly at full intensity, or if it comes with weakness, speech difficulty, confusion, fever, or neck stiffness. If the issue is established migraine treatment choices, see Migraine medicines.
