People often choose a fibre supplement when meals are low in fibre, hunger comes back too quickly, or the bowel is not as regular as it should be. The first useful question is usually not which product is strongest. It is whether fibre is actually missing from the daily routine.

Fibre products do different jobs. Some are used to increase the total fibre intake, while others are chosen because they fit a drink, porridge, capsule, or sachet routine more easily. A gradual start is usually easier on the gut than a fast jump, and enough fluid matters throughout.

If you use medicines, timing is worth checking because fibre can affect the absorption of some products. A fibre supplement is also not a substitute for meals, vegetables, fruit, or whole grains.

If constipation is prolonged, abdominal pain is strong, swallowing is difficult, or the bowel habit has clearly changed from your normal pattern, seek assessment before continuing.
