Sterile wound dressings are used when a fresh wound needs a clean protective cover after rinsing and basic first aid. In Finnish home care, the main job of the dressing is often to keep the area covered, reduce handling, and help the wound stay protected while you follow the next steps.

The best choice is usually the one that matches the wound size, expected moisture, and skin sensitivity. A small superficial cut may only need a light, low-friction dressing, while a wetter wound needs something more absorbent that still does not stick too aggressively.

If the wound is deep, contaminated, bleeding heavily, or soaking through the dressing quickly, sterile coverage alone is not enough. In that case, the wound should be reassessed and the dressing plan changed. If redness, heat, swelling, or pain increases, seek care.
