Some injuries need absorption, some need fixation, and some mainly need a soft protective cover. If the skin reacts easily, the adhesive and the shape of the product can matter as much as the wound itself.

Seek care if the wound is deep, dirty, from a bite, keeps bleeding, shows infection signs, or if the injury is a burn that is large, chemical, electrical, or in a sensitive area. If the person feels unwell overall, the threshold for assessment should be lower.
