Disinfection products have a place, but they are not the first answer to every wound. For many minor injuries, cleaning and protection matter more than applying stronger and stronger products.

The right product depends on the situation. A product that is helpful for skin preparation or a contaminated area is not necessarily the best choice for a small clean scrape. The main point is to match the product to the wound and not to use more than the situation needs.

If the wound is deep, dirty, infected-looking, caused by a bite, or sits near the eye or another sensitive area, seek care. If you are unsure whether disinfection is actually needed, it is usually safer to keep the approach simple and get the wound assessed if it looks suspicious.
