Adhesive tapes are for holding dressings, not for healing a wound on their own. The most useful tape is the one that keeps the dressing in place while still being gentle enough for the skin around it.

Some tapes are better for sensitive skin, some for longer wear, and some for areas that move a lot. The real test is whether the tape holds without lifting, rolling or causing unnecessary irritation when the skin is already under strain.

If the skin becomes red, sore, itchy or blistered under the tape, a gentler option may be needed. If the wound looks worse, keeps bleeding, or the tape is covering a significant injury, it is better to seek assessment instead of relying on fixation alone.

For fragile or sensitive skin, low-tack or breathable options are often easier to tolerate than stronger all-purpose tapes, especially when the dressing needs to stay on for several hours.
