Kinesiology tape is usually chosen for support, body awareness, or comfort around movement. It can have a practical place in self-care, but it does not explain the cause of pain and it does not replace rest, load management, or assessment after a real injury.

The biggest difference is not colour or pattern. It is whether the tape can be applied in a way that makes movement easier without irritating the skin. If taping has to be repeated constantly or the benefit stays vague, the situation may need a simpler plan.

If swelling is marked, walking or using the limb is difficult, or there was a clear injury event, the tape should not delay assessment. Supportive taping is only one layer of care, not the diagnosis.
