Wound dressings: cover, protect, and match the wound

Wound dressings are used to cover a wound, protect the skin around it, and support a clean dressing routine. The best choice depends on the wound size, the amount of fluid, how fragile the skin is, and whether the dressing should absorb, cushion, or stay in place for longer.

Some dressings suit small cuts and abrasions after the area has been cleaned, while others are better for more moist wounds or places that move a lot. A dressing that is too small, too dry, or too sticky can make the area harder to manage, so fit matters as much as material.
