The point of facial cleansing is to remove the day’s buildup of sunscreen, makeup, oil, and dust without leaving the skin stripped. Good cleansing should feel clean, not harsh. If the skin feels tight after washing, the cleanser is probably doing too much.

The best product depends on how the skin feels after washing. Dry or sensitive skin often prefers a softer, fragrance-free cleanse. Oily skin may like a gel texture more, as long as it does not leave the skin squeaky or rough. Micellar water is useful for quick cleansing, but it may not be enough on its own for heavier makeup or a very durable sunscreen.

The useful test is whether the routine leaves the skin balanced. If the cleanser helps the skin accept moisturizer easily and keeps congestion down without extra irritation, it is usually a good match.

If redness, stinging, or ongoing tightness keeps increasing, the cleansing step is often the first one to simplify.
