A headache that happens almost every day is not the same as an occasional headache. The pattern can be caused by tension, migraine, poor sleep, stress, neck strain or too frequent pain medicine use.
Why a headache can become daily#
Tension-type headache is a common reason. It often feels like tight pressure around the temples, forehead or back of the head. Migraine can also become frequent enough to feel daily, especially if attacks are not well managed.
Too frequent pain medicine use can keep the headache going. If medicine is needed many days each week, the plan needs a review rather than just another tablet.
What to note down#
Write down when the headache happens, where it hurts, how strong it is, which other symptoms come with it and what you took. It also helps to note sleep, caffeine, alcohol, meals, screen work and unusual stress.
A simple two-week note often shows more than trying to remember everything in the middle of the pain.
What usually helps while waiting for review#
Keep meals and fluids regular, move a little, and avoid long stretches of the same posture. If screen work is part of the day, break it up with short pauses. Sleep matters more than most people want to admit.
When to seek care#
Seek urgent care if the headache starts suddenly and is very severe, or if it comes with fever, neck stiffness, confusion, weakness, speech problems, vision loss or a change in consciousness. Seek review if the headache is present on most days, if pain medicine is needed often, or if the pattern has changed clearly from your usual one.
