A callus is often the skin's way of protecting itself from pressure and friction. A corn is usually a more local pressure point that can feel sharp or sore, especially when the same spot is pressed again in a shoe.

The main question is usually not just how to soften the skin, but why that point is taking the load in the first place. Shoe fit, pressure distribution and insoles can matter as much as the product on the shelf. If the same spot keeps building up hard skin, the cause is still there.

Gentle softening can help, but rough treatment often makes the skin more irritated. If the skin breaks, the pain grows or the same callus keeps returning, the situation deserves a closer look.
