Dry mouth can feel like burning, roughness, stickiness, or a constant need to drink. It is uncomfortable on its own, but it can also make teeth and lining more vulnerable to irritation and decay.

Many things can cause it, including medication, mouth breathing, stress, low fluid intake, or dry indoor air. Simple daily steps often help most at first, such as regular small drinks, good oral hygiene, and xylitol after meals.

The best product depends on when the dryness is worst. Sprays are handy in the day, gels can feel better in the evening or at night, and slowly dissolving products may suit people who want longer relief.

If the dryness is strong, started with a new medicine, or comes with sores or swallowing trouble, it should be assessed. A moisturising product can help comfort, but it does not explain the cause.
